My compost is made from trees. It's covered and cooked so to speak until it's ready.  Being that it is real compost it maintains this dark color and nutrition. 
Compost is a great way to return nutrition and mass back to you lawn, flowerbeds and garden. Like winter crop we need to feed and nourish the soil regularly.  You certainly can grow in the same spot year after year but without nutrition your plants and vegetables will be smaller each successive year. You have to put something back into your soil to maintain healthy landscapes.

I have compared my compost with some of these most recent bagged products and feel it's a better product, price and stays darker much longer (8  to 18 months longer at this point)  I may get beat in the advertising game but not in these 5 areas.
